New collaboration between the Niels Bohr Institute and DMI
Two of DMI’s foremost climate researchers have joined the Niels Bohr Institute as adjunct professor and associate professor respectively. They are research director Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen and climate researcher Peter Lang Langen, both from the Danish Climate Centre.
Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen and Peter Lang Langen will have the honour of helping to train future climate researchers at the Niels Bohr Institute. This is because the Danish Meteorological Institute and the Niels Bohr Institute have entered into a collaboration in which they will support each other in research and education relating to weather, climate and the oceans.
The Niels Bohr Institute is a strong partner and has expertise in DMI’s core areas – weather, oceans and climate. We can easily use this to be even better,” says DMI’s director Marianne Thyrring.
And on the other side of the table, the educational institute is just as excited.
Practical meets theory
“At the Niels Bohr Institute, we are very happy with the agreement. It gives students the opportunity to meet researchers from DMI and gain insight into the practical world outside the university,” explains institute head at the Niels Bohr Institute, Professor Robert Feidenhans’l.
Jens Hesselbjerg has been employed as a climate researcher at DMI since he finished his PhD at the Niels Bohr Institute in 1990 and for the last eight years he has been the director of research at the Danish Climate Centre at the Danish Meteorological Institute.
Peter Lang Langen also came to DMI from a postdoc position at the Niels Bohr Institute in 2012 and thus has a thorough knowledge of both the research and teaching at NBI.
