Abstract:

The use of remote sensing is widespread throughout DMI, in research activities as well as for operational purposes. The potential of application of remote sensing methods and products is tremendous, in particular at this important point in time where access to data from new sensors and data is rapidly increasing.  In this talk, I would like to share my view on the role of DMI as a major player in the field, and the perspectives of further mainstreaming of remote sensing methods and products – where should we be going and how do we get there? As new to DMI,  I will start out by presenting a few results from my own research to give an idea about where I come from, followed by some general thoughts about what makes a good research environment, and finally how do we best capitalize on our research with pointers to specific areas to explore further.
